The festival is officially on!
During the past weekend we’ve been able to enjoy the Gothenburg Symphony being remixed by Norwegian artists Rakel Nystabakk and Eirik Ask, the mind blowing music collective Siwan who brought us on a beautiful musical journey and American ensemble Dog Star Orchestra who gave us the most delicate microtonal minimalism.

Music is often relegated to enclosed buildings, building that come with their own connotations on how you’re supposed to experience the music that is being presented. But what happens when you move the concerts out of the concert halls and into more or less public spaces?

To a large extent, Göteborg Art Sounds is an international festival. And we love being able to present interesting artists from all over the world. But we shouldn’t forget all the amazing music that is being created and presented in Gothenburg. Göteborg Sounds is our way of re-directing the spotlights, and showcase what’s actually happening in our own city.

Over the last decades Norway has become one of the more interesting countries when it comes to new experimental music. The music that has emerged is something that often combines seemingly disparate genres, marrying electronica with free improvisation and minimalism, often with hints of traditional folk melodies.

We are very proud to be presenting no less than three exclusive premieres plus a whole evening of new works during this year’s edition of the festival!

During the 2016 edition of the festival, we started a collaboration with Askim-Frölunda-Högsbo Kulturskola, introducing their students to contemporary music during the two-day workshop Sound & Beat, lead by Danish musicians Lisbeth Diers (percussion) and Kasper Bai (guitar).

Since a few years back, we are part of several international festival networks, consisting of artistic directors and curators. In order to address issues regarding the role of art in a rapidly changing world – and as a way of changing the way we program and what the festival is and can be – for the 2018 edition of the festival we have chosen to collaborate with four international guest curators, who’ve all helped shape this year’s festival program.

So far we’ve had quite an international focus on the artists that we have announced, but now it’s time to focus on some of the excellent local ensembles and projects that we’re presenting as part of GAS 2018.

Last week we announced the first confirmed artists for this year’s edition of the GAS-Festival, and it was so good to finally be able to share that with you. So why stop there? Here is the next batch of confirmed artists for GAS 2018!

We are finally ready to announce the first batch of confirmed artists for the 2018 edition of Göteborg Art Sounds that takes place September 28th to October 6th! New for this edition is that the program for the 2018 festival has been designed in collaboration with our four international curators Anna Berit Asp Christensen, SPOR Festival, Denmark, Joost Fonteyne, artistic director of Wilde Westen, Belgium, Lauren Pratt from Redcat, Los Angeles, USA and Peter Burton, artistic director, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Montreal, Canada.
