Working with the next generation
During the 2016 edition of the festival, we started a collaboration with Askim-Frölunda-Högsbo Kulturskola, introducing their students to contemporary music during the two-day workshop Sound & Beat, lead by Danish musicians Lisbeth Diers (percussion) and Kasper Bai (guitar).
This year, we’re taking things one step further and have invited Belgian improvisation musicians Jean D.L. & Karen Willems. The same set up of drums and guitar. But with a totally different approach. During the workshop Jean and Karen will introduce the students to improvisation and experimental music, creating exercises where they get to pursue new musical ideas. The workshop concludes with the students improvising to a film they have never seen before.
“The idea behind this is to get young, developing musicians interested in – or at least make them aware of – experimental music and to give them the chance try out new approaches towards music making and how to create sounds. Trying out improvisation and meeting internationally renowned musicians can open new doors and perhaps give these students new impulses towards their own creative development. If nothing else, they will have experienced something slightly weird but hopefully very fun and rewarding.” – Staffan Mossenmark, Artistic Director
Jean D.L. & Karen Willems will also do a concert together with the participating workshop students at Brötz on October 3rd.
