TLEQ is a dynamic force on the Nordic jazz scene, featuring award-winning musicians who have played with top ensembles such as Frank Vignola, MusicMusicMusic, Bohuslän Big Band, Naoko Sakata, and Jojje Wadenius, amongst others.
Renowned for their innovative blend of clarinet and violin, TLEQ has released three albums with modern jazz, including their latest, Movement, on the German label Berthold Records. This album received widespread acclaim, with Orkesterjournalen praising it as “a special and unique album” (2023), and Opulens Magazine describing it as “a primal force with improvisational freedom” (2023). The album was also noted for its “vital and dense modern Nordic Jazz of high quality, with a distinct and appealing group sound” by Sydsvenskan (2023).
The success of Movement earned TLEQ a nomination for Sweden’s largest independent music award ”Manifestgalan” in the ”Jazz of the Year” category for 2024. TLEQ’s distinctive sound has taken them on tours across Germany, India, Norway, and Sweden, with performances at prestigious venues such as the Stockholm Jazz Festival (Sweden), Victoria National Jazz Scene in Oslo (Norway), B-flat Jazz Club in Berlin (Germany) and Leela Palace in Bangalore (India).
Listening to TLEQ is like walking through a vast landscape—one moment you’re swept up in the wild winds of energy, the next you’re standing still, captivated by a single, fragile note that resonates like a whispered secret. At the heart of TLEQ’s music is the fearless creativity and compositions of Terese Lien Evenstad and Alexander Ivarsson, who blend traditional jazz with modern influences to create a fresh, authentic sound.
In recognition of her work with TLEQ, Terese Lien Evenstad was awarded a scholarship from Västra Götalandsregionen in 2024, with the motivation: ”When Terese Lien Evenstad’s violin playfully navigates the chord progressions of the jazz tradition, it might catch us off guard—improvised violin is rare in the genre. Yet, her skill and fearless musicality have earned her national recognition. Whether performing with others or leading her own quintet, her sound is not just fresh and exciting; it’s downright addictive.”
Together with pianist Fabian Kallerdahl, bassist Arvid Jullander, drummer Johan Birgenius, and clarinetist Alexander Ivarsson, Terese Lien Evenstad forms a band that touches the listener with expressive violin jazz as a signature.
A concert by Utopia in collaboration with Göteborg Art Sounds. This is also the concert marking the end of the “main days” of Göteborg Art Sounds. Come hang out!“
