Anna-Liisa Eller and Taavi Kerikmäe are brilliant musicians who have performed together as an unusual duo of Estonian kannel and keyboards for several years. In their mutual performances they have fascinatingly blended early and contemporary music.
After graduating from the master’s programme of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in classical piano, Taavi Kerikmäe studied contemporary music at the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Lyon. He is currently working in the field of contemporary music, free improvisation and experimental music as a performer and composer and teaches contemporary music, experimental music and free improvisation at the Estonian Academy of Music. Kerikmäe has performed at numerous contemporary music festivals in Europe, USA, South America, South Korea, Greenland, and Thailand. In concert, Taavi performs on the piano, theremin, keyboards and custom-made electronic instruments. He has worked with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Tristan Murail, Vinko Globokar, Kaija Saariaho, François-Bernard Mâche, Alessandro Solbiatti, Louis Andriessen, Helena Tulve and many others.
Anna-Liisa Eller is an Estonian kannel player and teacher. Her main focus is on early music and contemporary music creation. She likes to experiment and broaden the possibilities of Estonian chromatic kannel. This hardly known exotic instrument with surprisingly wide possibilities has been described by different listeners as a sound from heaven. At the moment she continues her Doctoral Studies in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and since 2024 she is a pedagogue of EAMT. Anna-Liisa works in close cooperation with several early music ensembles, such as Supersonus, The Bright Future Ensemble, Vox Clamantis, Floridante etc. In 2021 Anna-Liisa’s solo CD Strings Attached: The Voice of Kannel was released under Harmonia Mundi. It has received a lot of positive feedback from international music press and was awarded the prize of “Estonian classical music album of the year 2021” and annual prize by Estonian Culture Endowment in 2021.
