Modern music ensemble Gageego!

Contemporary ensemble Gageego! is appreciated for their ability to interpret todays music in a highly artistic, yet refreshing way. For this concert they take spectral music into a new era of explorative music.

Gageego! was formed in 1995 with the explicit mission to explore and make contemporary music more accessible. As one of the key players in Contemporary Music Sweden, the ensemble is held in high esteem for the pleasurable and curious way they interpret today’s music, while always pushing the technical and artistic levels to new highs. In the same way as Gageego! was born out of the musician’s need to play chamber music at the highest level, the group thrives on new challenges in both modern classics and completely new works, many of them commissioned for Gageego!.

In addition to concert performances in Sweden, the group has toured Russia, China, Denmark, and Austria where they were guest artists at the Vienna concert for the Lange Nacht der Neue Klänge. The group also regularly collaborates with Swedish and international guests such as Peter Eötvös, Heinz Karl Gruber och Pierre-André Valade. The last few years Gageego! has presented annual series of concerts of their own in the Gothenburg Concert Hall.

About the works

John Croft Trio (Seirēnes III) (2013)
This piece is a quartet for alto flute, guitar, viola and cello where the music moves in phrases, sometimes connected, sometimes halting, emerging from and receding into silence.

Ann CleareI Should Live in Wires for Leaving You Behind (2014)
Irish born composer Ann Cleare’s music often functions like sound sculptures, where the music tries to embody shapes, textures, depth and color. This piece is written for two pianists and two percussionists and explores recurring sonic objects.

Gerard GriseyVortex Temporum (1996)
Gerard Grisey is one of the true pioneers of the 20th century, being one of the protagonists in spectral music. In his work, he often explored time and how sounds, and our perception of sound, change over time. This piece, written for flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano, is the story of an arpeggio in time and space, divided into three parts.
