Masthuggskyrkan, located on the hill above the Stigbergstorget, is one of Gothenburg’s best viewpoints. The church was designed by Sigfrid Ericson, and was inaugurated in 1914. It is built in a national romantic style reminiscent of the Viking Age and medieval period, and is regarded as one of the best examples in the country. The timbered roof is reminiscent of both the old Swedish tradition and the construction of a hull. Indigenous materials and skilled craftsmanship enhance the genuine style. The church is surrounded by walls of stone that create the feeling of a monastery.
