FENOBA CONFERENCE

Academy of Music and Drama, Gothenburg University - November 29-30 2017

Today we can see countries choosing to close the gate and build high fences instead of opening their doors. This will cause us to see the distances grow between people and to isolate maps and territories.

How does this affect the idea of the international music festival and what responsibility do we have as a concert organizer as an actor responsible for transparency and cross-border?
We want to highlight some issues:

• In what way is the international festival needed today?

• How can we get international work at a time when we all see a Europe and a world more and more oriented inwardly and where an alleged necessity of defending the local cultural heritage is increasingly spreading?

• How does this affect the idea of music festivals with broad international programs?

• What is the meaning of international and artistic cross-border networks for music and art today, how can they be developed to counter isolation?

• How can the international (and national) conference as a platform strengthen and contribute to the culture of culture becoming a more important part of cultural life?

• How can the network contribute to the festivals developing a higher degree of self-reflection around for their concerted activities?

• What does the relationship look like between local and international in the various festivals of the network?

• In what ways can the festivals develop in order to discuss these issues more clearly?

• In what ways can our festivals in the Nordic - Baltic area and the Fenoba festival network develop in order to discuss these issues more clearly?
